This is the entrance into the lost city of Petra and you can see why it was unknown to westerners for thousands of years |

As you continue down the 2km long siq the rock walls rise around you only a couple of meters wide and a couple of hundred high. |

And then you round a final corner and get your first glimpse of the lost city. The treasury |

And what a first sight!!! |

Suitably impressed you can then press on through this narrow opening into the rest of the rose red city carved out of rock |

First off you see this huge amphitheater |
![]() |
Then hundreds of tombs and palaces carved out of the rock as the valley opens out |
![]() |
As you head over to these walls that guard the other side of the valley |

Exploring paths carved out of the mountains themselves |

You get to the Monastery with a death defying boulder problem to mantle the 4 metre high Urn at the top. |

The potential for bouldering and climbing is huge and the rock is certainly featured |

Or you could spend the day or two exploring the tens of thousands of these caves. There are no guard rails and if you get just off the main path you will have the place to yourself |
